Taxis face losing licences
Hundreds of taxi operators are likely to lose their licences after a change in the way they are issued.

Berwick Borough Council had approved applications from all over the region, including Newcastle, where numbers are restricted, sparking a judicial review.

Under a new system to unify taxi licences, Northumberland County Council will now make the decisions.

If a driver is already licenced, and proved fit and proper, how can the council remove a licence, or prevent the licence from continuing or being renewed if there are no complaints against him or her,
What about colour and vehicle type

They dont have to....how's about a knowledge test for all applicants upon renewal....or a DSA test....or the much maligned policy of shooting air pellets at the groin of the LO?

The first 2 would not be deemed reasonable, and you could get more than 3 years if you fire the thing.

Why are the pages going wide again :?: you start reading in one room and need to move next door to read the end bits

In your opinion.....and that is worth about as much as mine.....jack sh*t.

A DSA test was proved reasoable in darlington...caselaw.

And many areas insist on a knowledge test.

So I disagree my hopping friend.

For new applicants only, The drivers only lost in Darlington because they did not have proper representation, but they could still appeal

Right I will put it this way.
Mr Barmcake was licenced 20 years ago,
he has kept a clean licence all that time (you little liar Tommy)
all of a sudden big bad Woolf (the council) decide he must pass a driving test to do the same job he has been doing for the last 20 years.
dam right I would go for a judicial appeal

I don't think it's unreasonable. Particularly if the council you have been licenced with for 20years happens to be Berwick :D

Mr Barmcake.

Thank you for your recent application for a hackney carriage drivers license.

In order to process your application we need to process your DSA driving certificate, as per council pre condition of license.

we request this information by virtue of section 57 (1) of the Local government miscellaneous provisions act.

sincerely

Mr T. Watt
