Shock of city’s unroadworthy taxis

A SNAP inspection of Cardiff’s taxi fleet has revealed a staggering 42% were unroadworthy.

South Wales Police has expressed concern at the high percentage of failures uncovered in the random check.

The operation was set up in conjunction with Cardiff Council’s licensing team and the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency to establish the roadworthiness of public service vehicles.

Out of 52 vehicles checked, 38 of which were licensed by Cardiff Council, 22 failed and their drivers were served with prohibitions to get the fault repaired. All bar one of the 52 vehicles were used to carry members of the public.

That's only 42% of those that were checked. What % weren't checked. You'd need to check all of them to get a true assessment of the problem. Perhaps drivers are spending more time driving and less time fixing and repairing.
