"Cab" drivers fined Pair caught in undercover operation Friday the 13th turned out to be very unlucky for two cab drivers who were caught illegally plying for hire and driving without insurance. Mian Asif of Bodle Close, Pennylands, and Rahoof Rashid of Dunstable Road, Luton, appeared before city magistrates on Friday to admit their charges. The Skyline drivers were fined £100 for illegally picking up fares and £100 for not having insurance and ordered to pay £477.82 in costs. The magistrates also imposed six penalty points on their driving licenses. The pair were caught along with 10 others during an undercover operation. A taxi licensing enforcement spokesman said: "Picking up fares on the street is illegal. "Private Hire Vehicles have to be pre-booked otherwise the vehicle's insurance is invalidated. "These two drivers were both operating in an incredibly irresponsible and potentially dangerous manner." |

I would guess that their LA will be taking action due to the seriousness of the convictions. Possibly hence the pittance they had to pay in fines? CC |

Revoke the operators license. If he can't control the vehicles he operates then he shouldn't have a license. Regards JD |

Regards JD Sounds like a good idea. The operator should at least be aware of who is insured and most definately should be aware of who is blowing in work via the radio. I have yet to see any operator here be answerable to anything their drivers do |

Fines are based on the amount of declared earnings. 
It might well be the the JPs decided to ensure the council received their costs, rather than the gov received fine money.

Thats because Luton PH are allowed to dress up as Taxis. Remove the roof signs and you'll remove some of the temptation for people to hail them. |

](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif "Brick wall") It makes me so frustrated when i see private hire fined and points on their licence for illegally picking up.yet the five that where caught in Dundee get a slap on the back of the hand why can there be such a difference in what action is taken against private hire drivers that pick up illegally.
