| Post subject: | Try getting rid of a Stockport Councillor. |
Many cab drivers are having their licenses suspended or revoked for what some would say are trivial matters. Yet when those responsible for the suspensions and revocations commit a crime far worse than those commited by most cab drivers it is amazing how they refuse to take the same medicine they dish out to others. Here is one Stockport Councillor who flatly refused to resign as a councillor after he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register. __________________ Manchester Evening News August 30, 2002 Disgraced councillor quits over sex crime A DISGRACED councillor who sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy has quit. Neil Derbyshire had refused to give up his Stockport council seat despite being ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register after he admitted indecent assault and attempting to procure an act of gross indecency. Married Derbyshire, 50, of Manor Road, Marple, had previously resigned from the Stockport council executive and was suspended from the Liberal Democrat group, but said he intended to serve as an independent until the elections in May 2004. Had he been jailed for at least three months he would have been barred automatically. Derbyshire was facing a probe by the Standards Board for England which has power to disqualify him from serving as a councillor. Derbyshire, whose wife Susan is also a Stockport councillor, declined to comment on his resignation. Stockport council leader Mark Hunter welcomed Derbyshire's decision to quit. He said: "Under electoral law the council could do nothing to force him out of office, except refer the matter to the Standards Board for England." There is now likely to be a by-election in Derbyshire's Manor ward. _____________________ |

Quote: whose wife Susan is also a Stockport councillor
Soon to be ex-wife if she has a moral bone in her body. Then again she is also a councillor and I find it difficult to reconcile both councillor and morality or perhaps I'm just cynical |

I think Dave Edmunds had the Answer to Mrs Derbyshire's dilemna. "I hear you knockin but you can't come in" Unless she is the sympathetic type then she would probably have said, "Reach out I'll be there" Regards JD |

i was at that meeting, George SIMMS AND Pat Connors tabled some questions, but the chair would not let them ask, even though public questions were allowed. they were taking the limit off come what may, the chair said that even after the survey there was little change fom the last report and this new one after it had been report as no unmet demand. the drivers at the meeting were not very happey or George and Pat, to be frank it was a disgraceful affort by the council. |

Then Mr Simms and Mr Connor should look at the procedure of the council. As you should too. CC |
