Glasgow Airport aims to 'promote public transport use'


Glasgow Airport has given the go-ahead for public transport to be welcomed back onto its inner forecourt.

Following work to install 300 security bollards in front of the airport's terminal, at a cost of £2 million, public transport vehicles are now permitted entrance.

The security measures were put in place following the terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport in 2007.

It is hoped that passengers will now rely more heavily on buses and specially licensed taxis to make their way to and from the airport, helping to cut Glasgow's carbon emissions.

The eventual plan is to boost the number of people using public transport from 11 per cent to 15 per cent in the next three years.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, commented: "It is vital that we continue to reduce congestion and promote public transport, as a way of reducing our surface transport emissions and improving air quality."

Glasgow Airport is the second busiest in Scotland, carrying an average of 8.8 million passengers every year.

Does Scottish law provide for a 'special license??'

I dont know....but I wager these specially licensed ones pay for special permits

I guess they mean Renfrewshire licensed taxis with airport permits, at the moment 177 of the 218 licensed taxis operate there

looks to me Like the Scottish executives irradicated the gangsters by giving the "Chosen Ones" special Taxi Licenses...It hardly affects me but if I were a Taxi using that airport on a regular basis I would Consider that to be unfair as only Certain Special operators can use the forecourt. if they want to Induce a feeling of Greeness and get people using Public Transport then all Buses, Taxis and Ph hire should get access to it.

Having said all that getting someone to use a Taxi or a PH is no more Environmentally Friendly or free up any more road space than a Private Car would take up...4 people in a Taxi is no more Beneficial to the planet than 4 people in their own car.......Im guessing someone in a Decision making capacity is likely to make a nice little gain financially from this idea....

If Glasgow airport is anything like Aberdeen airport, this statement is just PC bollox.

All they are interested in is squeezing every penny they can from the taxi trade. They don't give a stuff about passengers.
