I think it’s about time the taxi trade in Dundee looked at all of the issues that are effecting all of us, maybe then we could start to get the broken parts of our trade back into a working order. I agree there are issues on the table only affecting certain members of the trade but there are many issues out there that affect all of us, here are some of these issues in no particular order and I’m sure we could all add many more to this list i.e.

The situation with Private Hire.

Limiting our numbers.

Having a coherent working relationship with our Council’s licensing dept; still keeping our individual cases but having an agreed formula on matter’s that affect and make a difference to all of us.

Having Tayside police do the job we are paying for and as you are all aware, we are not receiving.

Letting the office management know that they only have an office as long as we decide to stay and pay their fees, they have nothing without the trade that they treat with disrespect, whether you operate from the street or work from an office at some point your circumstances might change and this subject might affect you.

The trade as a whole is fragmented and only us as a trade can start putting the points on the board that effect us all, no one says we have to abandon our own causes but we can achieve so much more as one voice than we will ever achieve in the fragmented state the trade is in now.

We have bigger enemies out there than ourselves.

This is the norm throughout the country not just an issue for Dundee

I totally agree when we had our strike on 17th nov 2007 we had the council by the short and Curly's .Then 1 person in particular used it for his own personal gain .Lets hope we can get the trade to unite again and tackle the problems we have in the trade.

I agree with stationtone one man did hijack the situation this was an occurrence in the past, and what good did it do him, I believe even he’s been ostracised by his own kind.

The taxi trade in the past have united very successfully & this could be repeated in the future to benefit us all, the more we unite the stronger we will become.

We had a problem when the Council passed 71 public hire licences; the trade filled the Whitehall theatre & took the company in question through the courts.

When the same company had planning permission granted for Fat Sams Central the trade put in place a rolling road block which again united the taxi trade, this action carried on with the trade having a strike/ withdrawal of labour on a weekend and again the trade united we can only win if we stand together, we’ll achieve nothing bickering amongst ourselves.

Its down to us nobody else is going to do it for you.
