Councillors probe private hire driver who "had banned weapon"

Council probes private hire driver in banned weapon case

A PRIVATE hire driver's involvement with a prohibited weapon is to be spelled out to concerned licensing councillors next week.

Wyre Council, which manages the licensing side of the private hire trade in Wyre borough, will be told about a local private hire driver convicted of possessing a prohibited weapon and selling a prohibited weapon.

The driver has also failed to declare two recent driving endorsements.
Some details of the case have been made public on Wyre Council's website in advance of the licensing meeting next Thursday, though the name of the driver, and which part of the borough he has been operating in, have not been revealed.

Wyre covers and area stretching from Garstang to Fleetwood.

The meeting, at 6pm at Wyre civic centre, Poulton, on Thursday, February 26, is open to the public.

Wyre councillor's worry over "weapon sale" taxi driver

A PRIVATE hire driver convicted of possessing and selling a prohibited weapon will be allowed to return to his trade after a one month suspension from the taxi trade.

The vote on the suspension of the driver was held at a private session of Wyre Council's licensing committee, which also heard the man, described in a now public report only as 'Mr K,' had also failed to declare two recent motoring endorsements.

The Courier learned today that when the vote was taken one committee member, former Wyre mayoress Coun Susan Pimbley, abstained.

The record of the private meeting states that Coun Pimbley, of Out Rawcliffe, wanted it to be minuted that she had abstained because "she did not feel she would be comfortable with any member of her family travelling in a taxi driven by Mr K."

'Mr K' was not legally represented and has the right of appeal.

The Courier has previously learned that Mr K does not work in the Garstang or rural part of Wyre borough.

It is understood he has been involved in the private hire trade in Poulton, Thornton Cleveleys or Fleetwood.

After his one month suspension Mr K will be granted a licence, subject to producing his driving documents to the council's taxi licencing officer every three months for a year. He has the right of appeal.
A copy of the committee's decision can be seen at

Oh well just another slap on the wrists. It appears to me that the council just do things so they are seen to be doing something
