Private Hire owner drivers in Lincoln today woke up to find a big splash advertisement in the Lincolnshire Echo under the banner, "Taxi fares slashed in Lincoln" I was surprised too, being a Lincoln Taxi driver. Nobody consulted me, i thought.

Of course the advert had nothing to do with Taxi's, but everything to do with "taxi's" aka Private Hire. And one company in particular, where the owner has unilaterally decided to cut fares. (I wonder if he has unilaterally reduced the radio rent by a similar percentage?  )

Drivers I spoke to today are revolting. (joke, Toots)

They are not happy, as they say.

I wonder which genius PH operator dreamed up this scheme?

Smacks of desperation. Wonder if there will be a driver exodus.

Bit of a gamble from the semi-pro gambler, it seems to me.

Of course, he doesn't have to worry about running costs, so maybe just gambling with other people's livelehood?

It doesn't surprise me in the least that a PH company owner would slash fares without first consulting drivers. The first question I would ask if they slashed my fares is as you mentioned "is the settle being reduced too?".

I'm sure his pockets won't be lined any less now than they were last week. I hope his drivers do revolt :D

The only people you could complain to would be one of the disabled groups, and you know how they stick together when you complain about one of their own.

Do you think the Mayor of New York would oppose us?.....skip is on personal terms with him

With their new fares in place and £70 for being sick....they surely can afford to cater for the wheelchair bound now?
