We have a tariff review ongoing at the moment. It is proposed to re-instate tariff 3 (general tariff +50%) on the following days/hours

Christmas :
24th Dec 9pm-6am, 25th Dec 9pm-6am

New Years :
31st Dec 9pm-6am, 1st Jan 9pm-6am

This replaces the £1 supplement adopted on the last tariff review of Feb 2008.

There's to be no change to the flag fall, running mile or sundry charges.

There is an amendment to the proposal being lodged by the independent taxi owners, who work non-radio on the ranks, to allow a modest increase in the running mile of 1-2%. This will be considered at the next committee meeting at Falkirk Council. Although I see the logic in their argument I feel it won't be carried, this time.

Please note: Tariff 3 used to be on all public holidays, it was dropped completely due to it being abused by some scrotes to overcharge. As a result of which we all lost out. We also had the added expense of fitting calendar meters to prevent any repeat.

I think drivers should get an enhanced rate at Xmas and New Year.

But I think you need to be careful not to kill the golden goose.

Cos if punters are scared off, then it wont matter if you treble the fares.

Tariff 3 is generally ok, it's tariff 4 that I find excessive, we went progressive a few years ago to stop the button selectors ripping ppl off, but with the T4 and the pub and club pricing it's killed off Xmas and NY anyway, I simply don't work them anymore, I can't listen to *how much!* all night and tbh I think it's too much myself, sticking a pound on instead is a good idea but it need to be higher, I think an addition to the meter of 2.00p might work overall, but only if you can get the pubs to stop charging to go in and the clubs get more reasonable with their charges as well, it's not so much the fares that let the night down, it's the volume of ppl that no longer exists that does it, and who can blame them for staying in if it's going to cost 40 quid for 2 rides and another 30 quid to walk into a club.

We have tariff 2 (T1+25%) from 6am to 9pm on all public holidays. A charge I seldom impose on our "bread and butter customers", esp the auld yins. Most of them know the fare in any case.

As for the Xmas and New Year most folk get in the car asking if it's double fare, then can't believe we only get time and a quarter. Having said that it kept a lot of drivers off the road the last 2 years, making the slice of cake that little bit bigger for those of us who did work. With all that's gone on this year so far, I may be looking at a (very thin) slice of a cup cake this year. :?
