I actually think it's quite interesting reading myself. It shows that everybody across the board is confused by Taxi/Ph laws/regs. It also shows that they are aware that the customer doesn't care who's taxi/Ph they are in so long as they get home. IMO the single tier is the way forward, with councils de-reging all over the place I don't see the problem other than what vehicles to use.

Yes i think the public and police should be educated but i think most do know the law but turn i blind eye.Also a lot of people just don,t appreciate the job we do

I have posted on you topic on the Police site, mainly to try and educate some of the readers/replyers - Who as usual, seem confused as to their role.

I had just read it and was thinking that is someone talking sense .You have given good advice but unfortunately we have made several approaches to the council and they are just not interested in fact they are facilitating the ph yard across from fat sams night club.The ombudsman has also believe what the council have said that BLOCK BOOKINGS MAY BE LEGAL,i say they should be 100% sure when dealing with the public.

I've always been of the opinion that the laws/regs that control the industry really do need updating and bringing into the 21st centrury. I believe we only need one taxi service and that having two just clouds the issues and confuses the public. Single tier with mixed fleets of high quality vehicles and highly trained drivers and I'm not talking Nvq's I talking relevant training.

Hi stationone. I posted my reply over there to try and educate the Police who might read it rather than the taxi trade.

I know Scotland is slightly different from the rest of the UK (taxi laws) etc, however, there must be some way to get the Council to listen. I don't know what sort of Association etc you have, but you must use the system. The councillors need to be pestered, get the local press and the public on board. The officers (civil servants) will fob you off.

You are obviously doing something right in contacting the ombudsman, however, you need to speak to Mr Captain Cab or a licensing solicitor about block bookings.

It sounds illegal to me. Does the Misc Prov Act 76 apply in Scotland? that can be your "bible" along with the many stated cases on here.

Keep going and you will have to do all the graft, you will win through.

Incidentally, why did you not bring private prosecutions based on your Private eye evidence? was it due to cost

There is still legal stuff going on that i can not talk about but lets just say the Dundee taxi trade backed by STF,DTA,UNITE are continue to fight.We are prepared to get a judical reveiw if need be but we are exploring everthing before we go down that road because of the cost.

I believe block bookings are legal as long as you send HC's to do the jobs [just as they would if they served a rank], but totally illegal for a PH to do them without all Passengers names and other particulars

I wouldn't worry too much, the whole thing is shagged now, I've just had to for the 3rd time in as many weeks educate someone what an ettiquette is, 2 foreign, one British, the British ones actions were motivated by the foreign ones actions, i.e he's gone to the stage where he's seen then not play by the rules so he's decided to not also, what is evident is that there are too many of the wrong sort doing the job, as a mate said to me they need a CRB from where they originate from, his worry is that we could have rapists and murderer's driving out there unchecked.

The fact that the police haven't a clue should surprise no-one.

And as for that copper saying there is a big problem with taxi touts at Gatwick, well he is 100% wrong.

Last time I phoned them I waited an hour and gave up, the next time I had to deal with them they needed a statement from me, so they left me in a carpark at 2am on a Friday waiting for them, and eventually I had to go ring them again and ask if they wanted my help or not, still it wasn't really important, it was only a stabbing where someone almost died, not really important at all, and they almost soiled the crime scene as well, and one thing a cop doesn't like is someone else telling them how to do their job, I was always pro cop because their job is difficult, but the experience I've had lately is one of why should I bother anymore.

I,d give you ten out of ten for trying to educate that numpty(ryk) you made some very good points.The point about organised crime is really a concern of the Dundee taxi trade as there is only one private hire office in Tayside.
