Racist mob attack on Wokingham taxi driver

A taxi driver has spoken of his horror after he fell victim of a baying racist mob in Wokingham. Atif Khan had dropped off a fare in Elms Road in Wokingham when a group of men approached him and demanded a lift.

When the 35-year-old said he was not allowed by law to accept the fare, the he gang of seven became aggressive and started shouting at him. Mr Khan said the attack then heated up and he was pushed and kicked to the ground.

He said bystanders he thought were good Samaritans started milling around the taxi, shouting racist insults at him. “I thought at first they would help, but it became clear they were supporting the men who were attacking me," Mr Khan, who suffered a broken kneecap in the attack on May 30, said.

“They were shouting evil things, ‘serves him right’, ‘swindling P*ki’, ‘why don’t you f**k off home?’” “I do not understand why people feel this way about taxi drivers – all we do is provide a service for people to get home."

Mr Khan, of Reading, had to have surgery on his injured knee and will be on crutches for at least six weeks, so he cannot work.

Maybe taking a booking to the BNP annual regional dinner and dance was his mistake?

I wonder if it had been a quiet middle aged couple who requested his services, would he have been so quick to stick to the terms and conditions of his license then?
