Taxi drivers in Chester to have more of a say after forming new association

TAXI drivers in Chester are having more of a say over proposed changes affecting their livelihoods. Chester West and Cheshire West Private Hire Association (CWCPHA) has been set up by city cab drivers in response to a number of concerns about measures affecting the trade which are expected to be implemented on June 30.

Drivers met with licensingofficials from Cheshire West and Cheshire Council this month at the second general meeting of the CWCPHA committee to discuss their concerns, among them licensing issues and vehicle regulation.

New identification plates and badges for drivers have already been introduced. Taxi drivers are keen to assure passengers that many of the badges and plates issued by the outgoing Chester City Council licensing authority are still valid until their 12 months have expired.

Meanwhile, drivers say they are relishing the chance to have more of a voice over matters after years of having to accept any changes without any consultation. The CWPHA committee, which comprises drivers from the three main operators in Chester – Kingkab, Bridge Street; Abbey Taxis, Foregate Street and City Cars, Brook Street – also has the support of the National Private Hire Association.

Anyone wishing to join Chester West and Cheshire Private Hire Association can find out more by visiting one of the above taxi offices. A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesman said: "We welcome the formation of the new association and look forward to working with its members at regular meetings and exchanging views."

Now if that ever merged with Charlie Oakes lot . . . .

You would need A3 headed paper.
