| Post subject: | Cabbies Jail term cut |
it was announced in the local rag this week that "obnoxious Knoxy" who was jailed for 5 years for killing a motorcyclist on the A1 whilst driving at high speed and talking on his mobile has had his sentence cut to 4 years ! Which means that the lunatic will be back driving tqaxis jumping rank and generally p*ss$%g off the rest of much sooner And before anyone makes the suggestion the council has already made it clear that they WILL be giving him his badge back after all the don't have the right to deny the bloke a living or themselves the 300 quid a year in plate fees badge fees etc they get out of it ! |

It don't work with our council they have an answer for everything ! Can't deny someone the right to earn a living is the usual line they trot out cabbies : but he's been charged twice with sexual assault in 3 months council : yes but he hasn't been convicted ! cabbies : he's a dangerous driver and has had 7 crashes in 3 years Council : yes but the police haven't objected to his license renewal etc etc |

Then the council is useless. They can refuse a license if they can prove the applicant isn't 'fit and proper'. A four year jail term fit's that bill quite nicely. |

then that makes a mockery of the whole CRB enhanced checks, there should be a "5 year clear" rule from any criminal conviction or loss of licence, except sex/drugs or firearms when it should be 15 years, and no-one on licence should ever get a badge. |

I suppose in this case a group of drivers can raise a petition saying they don't want this mush to get his license back. That will have to be discussed when the petition arrives by the committee concerned. That in turn will get into the newspapers and hopefully will make the officials think gain.

If the procedures do not allow for outside objections then it can't even be placed before the committee. I thought that only the committee themselves can object and they seem to have made it clear that they will grant the license. Maybe a visit to the papers may help but again until the license has been granted, there is no story and afterwards it is probably to late. |
