A Dundee pensioner has been left broken-hearted after she lost £6000 during a trip to the supermarket
Mina Robertson (77) was taking the cash to her husband Robert’s home in Cedarwood Drive on Thursday when she mislaid her bag filled with the money.
Mina, who lives in Beechwood, stashed the cash in two male wallets and a brown suede purse and put it into a black bag to keep it safe.

She explained, “I have looked after my man’s money for six years, his pension and his mobility allowance. I have been saving the money at my house for years but my husband, who sometimes gets forgetful, was asking to see it so I took it down.

“We live separately, but have been married for 56 years.

“I had put £2000 in one wallet, £2000 in another and over £2000 in a ladies brown suede purse. I put them in a black bag with a design on the front and took them out.”

Mina stopped off at the Tesco South Road store to get some groceries on the way and decided to get a taxi back to her husband’s house as she was carrying such a large sum of money.

After her journey she was devastated to realise the bag with the money inside had gone missing.

Mina continued, “I knew when I got to the house I would have to help Rab get a cup of tea and things so I decided to go straight to Tesco and get some groceries first.

“I paid £46 for messages, I thought I would get them off the money I had with me, and then I went outside.

“I went down the ramp to the taxi rank and asked one taxi whether he wanted a fare. He put my bags into the boot from the trolley and asked me whether I wanted the black bag to go in the boot too. I said no and I would keep it with me.

“I sat in the back of the taxi and he dropped me off at my husband’s house. He started taking my bags out the boot and I got out and went to help him. I must have left the bag in the back of the car.”

Mina’s family immediately called the police, but the devastated pensioner is yet to hear anything about the whereabouts of her family’s savings.

“I just can’t believe it, it has made me ill,” Mina said.

“I don’t keep well anyway, but I have felt worse since this happened. I have gone into shock over it. I can’t say what happened, I don’t know if someone has taken it or found it and hasn’t handed it in yet, but it really would mean the world to us if we could get it back.

“I just can’t believe it is gone.”

A spokesman from Tayside Police said, “We can confirm this incident was reported to us and officers are carrying out inquiries.”

Either someone is lying or someone is very heartless, I've a feeling at 77 yrs of age she thought she had the cash, but infact the bag never existed, only in her mind, still if it did happen the way she says it just shows where we've descended to as a race doesn't it.

Do they really put the messages in the "boot" up there? Was it really a Taxi? Hope the old dear gets it back. I'd hate to think this is some sort of scam to cover for her gambling addiction or even worse that fortnight she supposedly had in hospital was really a wee trip to barbados or LV? :D

why would a pair of OAPs have £6K in cash floating about?

1. Distrust of the banking system (understandable)
2. Avoiding benefit reductions due to cash holdings

she has blown the cash in the ale house & trying to pass the blame on to the poor [or not so poor] taxi driver.

You are either married or your not! She has concocted the story because she has spent all the money. All 6 years worth! Her husband   has asked for it and she came up with this story.
