Are they going to be refunding the payments for rank space which they took from the drivers all along the East Coast Mainline?? I doubt it do you? |

after reading the story that national express has walked away from the rail franchise, there is now some very good news for the taxi drivers who work at York station. They no longer have to buy black cabs, not only due to the high court ruling but as the person in charge of the permits can no longer charge or make the rules up as he goes along, And the best bit they no longer have to pay for the privilege of working there and the station is now open to any taxi owner driver, as the east coast line is now in public ownership Stinky and the rest of the crew spread the word

I doubt it do you? the money should be paid back by York Stn Taxis, there the ones who made the most out of it selling permits recently a driver lost or mislaid his York railway car park pass swipe card which enables driver to wait in the car park, York stn taxis quoted to replace the swipe carp at a cost of £50 the franchise is not over yet, the Goverment is now waiting for the next missed payment, then its over, no doubt Stn taxis will dream up a scheme to keep other drivers out http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8127851.stm |

Is this the same firm that fleeced the Newcastle taxi trade of so much money? Thousands a year I believe.
If the gov has taken over then best the drivers get their unions/associations to ensure the gov charge just a small fee to cover their costs.

Surely York Station and the others up and down the ECML will revert back to Network Rail being in overall control? Given that they're skint too, I can't see them backing off that quickly?

I think there is a misunderstanding of what actually is happening here ! The government will form a new company to eventually take over the running of the franchise from NXEC all contracts and agreements for permits will still be valid but the new company will be the ones collecting payments and dealing with renewals in fact i believe that first group will be managing the new business or providing the "expertise" so i doubt anything will change overnight |

The crazy permit prices are with a firm that no longer has a right to take any money. Now of course if the local trade want to throw money at the new company then more fool them, but IMO they have a chance to change things. What they need is folks to lead them to the promised land, not the local toilet.
