Taxi driver in court on rape charge

A TAXI driver has appeared in court charged with raping a student in Southampton when he gave her a lift.

Lance Bradley appeared before Southampton magistrates yesterday to formally answer the charge.

The 51-year-old, from Sandpiper Road in Lordswood, is alleged to have raped the 19-year-old girl sometime on the evening of April 23 and the early hours of the following day.

He then dropped her back at Leisureworld where she got another taxi to be taken home.

The investigation saw taxi drivers in the city asked to volunteer to be swabbed for DNA by detectives.

Bradley will appear before Southampton Crown Court later this month.

Why, after having been raped, would she take another cab????

She may not have been thinking straight and just wanted to get home. Not all rape victims report the rape straight away so she may not have phoned the police there and then. Who knows but there is something a little strange about this (apart from me, sussex) and that is the time lapse of the rape. Was she held prisoner or so drunk she couldn't stand up, which I think it probably is going to be the later and the cabby may have gotten drunken consent and she has realised later what she did and called rape, which in effect it was.
