Can't believe I would ever see the day when those ghastly minicabs would be allowed to 'ply' their trade at Heathrow, but it appears they will soon.

Looks like Addison Lee will get to work out of Terminal 3, and a PH firm owned by London a black cab firm (     ) will run out of Terminal 5.

Doomed I tell you, doomed.

Initially a good source, but has been confirmed by the mass hysteria on the London cabbies forum.

First of all Minicabs have always worked out of the Airport, secondly they have had booking points for years.

This is about waiting areas for them, which has traditionaly been the Car Parks.

I see or hear nothing about 'them' taking over, or being allowed to 'rank' up like the pretend Taxis do at Gatwick and Stanstead.

Checker have taken over East Midlands Airport, they hate it when all the passengers come out and get into pre booked Taxis. They haven't got any plates on the rear of their vehicles so I was wondering if they were operating a chauffeur service.

I think you have this wrong. Checker have LOST East Midlands to a new company.

Didn't know that World War II went on into the 1950's.

You must be in a world of your own!!!

Checker have been in East Mids airport for a few years. I was told 2 days ago that they were out and a new company was in. I think the new company are called Arrow and a lot of PH who pick up for businesses regulaly are not very happy with them because they have apparenty put loads of cars in the airport and they have someone noting down all the company names that drivers are holding up and they are then contacting the company's to try and get the work.

I've nothing against choice, and as much as I slag off our second rate opposition, I accept they have a place and that some people prefer them to Taxis.

What I do have a problem with, is when you land at places like Gatwick or Stanstead, I want to use a licensed Taxi not a PH and now, thanks to 'brown envelopes' or whatever 'tendering' process they go through, I'm left with the hassle of calling a local Taxi firm, opposed to walking out onto the rank like I would do at Heathrow.

Choice. Simple word.

People at Heathrow have always had a choice, why not Gatwick, or Stanstead or any of the other Airports that have been sewn up?

Are there many business travellers using east midlands ? i thought the majority of the trade there was holiday traffic since BMI moved most of its operations to Birmingham ?
