| Post subject: | Dundee taxi driver attacked |
A 46-year-old Dundee taxi driver has told how he fought off three attackers who tried to rob him in the early hours of today (writes Graeme Strachan) The incident happened at the Stack Leisure Park in Lochee around 2.50am, when Forrester McKelvie stopped to drop off three men, who then demanded his cash. He refused and a struggle broke. They grappled with Mr McKelvie but he fought them off and the men ran away empty-handed. “I’m a big guy and it wasn’t as easy as they thought it would be,” Mr McKelvie said. Police said today they were following “positive lines of enquiry”. The driver picked up the men outside Fat Sam’s and Liquid in South Ward Road and they asked to be taken to St Mary’s. On the way, one of them become abusive and asked to be taken to the Stack Leisure Park. “The guys were drunk and had a wee bit of a carry on when they got in the car,” Mr McKelvie said. “One guy was in the front and the other two in the back. The one in the front was a bit nippy and abusive. “The guy in the front paid the fare then the one in the back said, ‘Money’. I said, ‘Your mate’s just paid it’. He said, ‘No, your money’. “The guy in the front then said, ‘I want your money’. “I said, ‘No, you’re not getting my money.’ “He said, ‘No, I’m getting your money for the privilege of having me in your car.’ “The guy in the front then took a swipe at me and caught me in the chest. “So I hit him back and I don’t think he was expecting that. One of the guys in the back tried to get at me as well and there was a scuffle. “I got out of the car and the scuffle continued. It was just a wee fracas. “I was fighting them off and I had the upper hand because they were drunk. “They thought they would take a chance and get my money but I wasn’t having that.” Following the struggle, Mr McKelvie got back in his cab to report the incident and then a silver sports car driving out of the park carrying three people. It’s understood police have been reviewing CCTV footage. The first man is described as about 28, 5’8”, of stocky build with dark brown hair. He had a local accent and was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and white trainers. The second man was around 28, 6’4” and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes and had a shaven head. The third man was also aged about 28, was 5’ 8” and again had a local accent. He was wearing a long T-shirt and khaki leather trousers. He had short fair hair. A police spokesman today said, “We are following positive lines of inquiry. But we would urge anyone who knows anything to come forward with information.” |

from what i have heard this poor driver only started driving a hack(wav)last week, situations like this have put drivers off driving cabs, hopefully he can put it behind him and go out and earn the min wage we all deserve(some sarcasm there)i know a few drivers who have binned their badges over situations like this,i think the best bet would be to get right back into things, taking time off might make it harder to return to the trade |

On returning from my holiday i have found out that it was a private hire driver from 203020 that was infolved in this .The police should therefore be able to identify the people that hired the private hire car. The 203020 driver had picked up from the yard across from fat Sam's.If this was an legal pick up then the should have a name for the passenger. |

That name could just be something like 'Smith' which is neither use nor ornament |
