Birmingham (& Solihull) have just had a REDUCTION in the Hackney Carriage Table of Fares!!

Yes that's right; a REDUCTION !!!

Those clever BASTA idiots applied to reduce the Tariff 2, weekdays night rate, to run from 23.00hrs until 04.00hrs the next day instead of the old 23.00hrs to 07.00hrs the following day.

There were no other alterations on the Table of Fares; everything else stayed the same.

AND we have all had to pay £15 for the privilege of having our meters changed.

BASTA apparently applied for this variation on behalf of the two Hackney radio/dispatch circuits, TOA & ComCab, because their then chairman & CEO, Martin Aldridge & Alan Bray respectively (who have both now left their radio circuits) allegedly believed that the introduction of the night tariff rates in 2007 had cost a lot of early morning work.

Of course the recession played no part in that at all.

Apparently, the other representative Hackney body, The Birmingham Taxi Co-op, were totally against the proposal, but it nevertheless went through the Licensing Committee.

All I can say is, "WHAT A LOAD OF MUPPETS!"

Does anyone know of any other LA where a taxi representative body has ever applied for a reduction in the Table of Fares?

Is it any wonder that they lost the airport. Was it not sugested that anyone wanting to work for less at 4.01 am could just offer a discount?

I'll use this as a prime example of how the trade is being played around with by cocks who don't really have a clue, here we have two ppl out of the whole cabby stock of a major city campaigning for fare reduction and getting it who if they had a clue would know all they've done is reduce the earnings from existing trade, this won't make anyone more profitable or add to trade, you can see it now can't you, all the Brum population and surrounding areas punters will be saying, ooh lets go out tonight, there's a taxi fare sale on and we don't want to miss out on saving a quid do we, and to add insult to it both of them have now jacked in.

It only needed a few drivers to object against it.

It was applied for on behalf of the Hackney radio circuits.

It only needed one, because even the proposers of the application were not at Licensing Committee, nor the supposed beneficiary radio circuits.

BASTA were busy seeing lawyers & the management at the two radio circuits had changed by the time of the final decision meeting.

I did toy with the idea of going, objecting with good reasoning, & trying to maintain the status quo. In fact one licensing officer had urged me to attend the meeting & gave the impression that, "I might win the day".

But in the end I weighed up two things. If I had gone & won the day no cabbie in Brum, or Solihull for that matter, would have known the difference & that the situation 'had been saved' to put a phrase on it. Most cabbies in Brum & Solihull did not even know that such a reduction in fares had been proposed by the once mighty BASTA.

But now that it has gone through everyone knows, because they have all had to pay £15 to get their meters recalibrated to a reduced tariff, albeit for 3 hours on five days of the week.

They also now know that BASTA are an even bigger bunch of knobheads, than they previously though they were.

Sometimes doing nothing to try to rectify a disadvantageous situation does bring some benefits.

Since when did councils control the rate for radio work? :?

They don't but they do control the rate for Hackneys. I don't understand why they did it to be honest cos they could have just reduced the rates themselves and advertised the fact. Perhaps they didn't want to lose drivers by reducing their rates when all others were higher

](*,) ](*,) ](*,) Dumb Asses. It was not the drivers who asked????? More probably the bosses. At 04:00 those idiots will be sleeping. All clever taxi Drivers will knock-off at 04:00 & then leave the clubbers to walk home......but we all know that won’t happen.

You're right ..... it was the bosses that asked for this reduction in Tariff 2 hours.

It won't make any difference in the amount of work coming through the radion circuits at that time of the morning, because we are in a recession & that's why the work has decreased.

But these bosses don't work as cabbies any more & the old ComCab boss has never driven a cab in his life.

That's fine, but this isn't leading; it's more like, 'Stuff the drivers, we're in charge'.

And if the drivers leave they ain't got a radio circuit.

They're idiots, 24 carat idiots!!

But we all have a choice, and hackneys more so than PH, cos hacks can use ranks, as for the radio base owners being in charge, well thats what you have to accept when joining one, take it or leave it OR, start your own...
