Taxi Driver Faces Losing Licence After Conviction For Theft
Committee will hear from woman why they should not suspend her from driving the public

14th July 2009

An Oban taxi driver faces a fight to retain her taxi licence as a result of a conviction for stealing from people with learning disabilities while employed by a care organisation.

Lorna Wylie, 33, of Morvern Hill, Oban, currently works for her father Robert Wylie’s firm Argyll Taxis.

She faces a licence suspension hearing at Argyll and Bute Council’s protective services and licensing committee tomorrow.

Inspector Neil Wallace of Oban police station has written to the committee informing it of Miss Wylie’s conviction on April 17.
After hearing from her the committee will decide whether or not the licence should be suspended.

She said she did not want to make any comment before the hearing.

Miss Wylie pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to embezzling £4,900 from residents at TACT Scotland, Muirhead Road, Baillieston, between February and September 1, 2007.

She was employed as a support organiser and was in charge of administering funds to residents with extensive learning difficulties.

She was caught out after another member of staff realised that the residents were missing money.

The court ordered her to do 80 hours of community service.

Miss Wylie has recently applied to renew her taxi driver licence.

In a report before the committee, head of legal and protective services Susan Mair said: “A licensing authority may order the suspension of a licence if in their opinion the holder is not, or is no longer, a fit and proper person to hold the licence.

“The authority has therefore arranged a hearing to consider whether or not it should be suspended.

“The purpose of this hearing is to give the licence-holder an opportunity to be heard prior to the authority making a decision.

“If the licensing authority decides to suspend the licence, the period of suspension shall be the unexpired portion of the duration of the licence or such other period as the licensing authority may fix.”

I looked for the story in this section before I posted it.

I didn't expect it to be elsewhere.

I have now seen double too.
