From page 7 of the document.................. Scope and exemptions 3.4 The most notable exemption is for all goods vehicles not exceeding 3.5 tonnes in NI (i.e. most vans) and, in GB, all passenger vehicles with 8 or less passenger seats where passengers are not been carried as separate fares (i.e. most taxis). phew, my 18-20 hour shifts are still ok then 
please note I only do 10 hrs, and even then I take 2 breaks of 30-60 mins.

If they ever bought in working hours for Taxi drivers how would they enforce it? It would be a nightmare to police. |

Sadly its these exemptions they are considering tinkering with.. It would be the Kiss of death if they introduced this. You may be on call 9 hours including 3 rest periods...your going to look a right bonny b*gger if you have to stop 3 times on a long haul run and boot out your passenger as you cant be seen to be working. worse still you'd need to employ 3 drivers every 24 hour period just to give you adequate 24 hour driver cover...now beside the occasional and extremely wealthy big smoke taxi driver of whom I know only one...who else in gods name can afford to pay 24 hours worth of wages for possibly 4 hours worth of driving a day...not me.
