Gang Attack and Rob Taxi Driver in Wellingborough 24 July 2009 Police are appealing for information after a gang of nine attacked and robbed a taxi driver in Wellingborough. The incident took place at about 3.15am on Friday 24 July at the junction of Kiln Way and Queensway in the town. Previously, at about 2.30am, six men got into the taxi in Northampton and asked to be taken to Wellingborough. The taxi, a white Mercedes Vieto 9-seater vehicle registration W331 PGW, then set off for Wellingborough before stopping to pick up another three men. When the driver reached Kiln Way/Queensway the passengers told him to stop. Then one of the offenders got out and pulled the driver out of the cab. They started jumping on the taxi roof and the driver's phone and cash were stolen. The driver was manhandled during the incident but was not injured. Eight of the men were black or mixed race and aged about 20. They all had short hair and were about 5ft 8ins tall to 5ft 10ins tall. One of the group was white and had very bushy hair.
