Kitten hails taxi Dec 2 2004

By Staff Reporter, Evening Mail

Delight turned to shock for a taxi driver when he heard his engine purring - and discovered a kitten trapped under the bonnet.

The private hire driver, working for Walsall-based ABC Taxis, found the stowaway wedged firmly in the engine compartment last night and could not get it out.

He decided to seek expert help and so drove to Aldridge fire station in Northgate where firefighters moved the taxi into their vehicle bay and proceeded to dismantle it to get at the kitten.

Leading Firefighter Mike Green said: "We took off the front grille and the valance and there was the kitten.

"We pulled it clear. It seemed to be in good health and none the worse for its ordeal."
