Opinions Sought on Elmbridge Taxi Licensing Changes

Tuesday 4th August 2009

Elmbridge Council wants to hear from people as it reviews its policies for licensing taxis and minicabs.

The consultation, which started this week, will continue until Friday, August 28, and all current licence holders have been notified by a letter.

The council does not intend to change the majority of the existing policies, but wants to make amendments in certain areas.

The main changes the council wants to implement include allowing advertising on vehicles, increasing from one year to three how long new applicants for Hackney Carriage or private hire licences will be required to have held an EU driving licence and relaxing the ban on vehicles over seven years old being licensed.

Councillor Chris Elmer, chairman of the licensing committee, said: The consultation will not only provide for input from the trade but also give the opportunity for regular users of these vehicles, and other interested parties, to make their views known to us about how we encourage and control this important part of the local transport system.”

The full policy document will be available to view at elmbridge.gov.uk/taxis.

FFS doesn't anyone ever read the 1976 act?

Section 59 1b says a driver need only have had a full license for 12 months.

Is this stupid council now saying their own entry criteria surpasses statute law? ](*,)

I was reading something about this the other day. Although not impossible it is very expensive and extremely difficult.
