A BOGUS taxi driver who stole a mobile phone from a pedestrian in Southwell is being hunted by police.
The incident took place on 8th August just after 5pm when a grey Audi bearing stickers on the doors purporting to be a taxi service approached a man on Westgate.
The driver, described as an Asian man aged between 25 and 30-years-old with black hair and stubble, asked the man for directions to Church Street.
He then asked to borrow the man's mobile phone saying he would give him £1 for the cost of the call. But the driver then drove off with the phone.
Insp Andy Gan said: "I would ask all members of the public to remain vigilant when approached by a taxi service asking for directions, as the majority of genuine taxi drivers have checked directions before their journey.
