You will need a brolly on holiday in the UK in August

The Met Office is issuing a revised forecast for more unsettled weather well into the month.

It is a far cry from the "barbecue summer" it predicted back in April.

The news will raise questions about the Met Office's ability to make reliable seasonal forecasts.

But the organisation has defended its record, saying people have already forgotten the hot weather experienced across many parts of Britain in June.

It also highlights the absence of the sort of major floods that blighted 2007 and 2008; and the largely fine weather for the Wimbledon tennis championship, the cricket Tests and the Open golf.

I wish I could pick up their pay cheques - make as many mistakes as they do, and still have a job.

It begs the question...if their super computers cant forecast accurately more than 3 days in front why in hell are they trying to scare the crap out of us about how the weather and climate will be in 50 years time...it just dont add up because they just dont know!!

This is all mad. Some 20/30 years ago they were making 30 day weather forecasts and just like today they f****d up on a regular basis and eventually stopped!

I get passengers today asking what the forecast is next month! and I always say - next month! they cannot get tomorrow right so do not hold your breath on that one, nothing changes as the change of direction of the wind will always make you look a fool.

Day to day forecasting is fairly accurate. Long term forecasting is more to do with trends and statistical anaylsis.
