Appeal After Taxi Driver Robs Customer In Weybridge

A Weybridge woman had her handbag stolen by a taxi driver this month after getting into an argument about the fare.
The 23-year-old woman had been travelling in the taxi with a group of friends on Sunday, August 16, after a night out in London.
When the taxi arrived at Oatlands Drive, Weybridge, at about 2.30am, the women and driver started to argue about the fee.
The women left the taxi, but the driver then chased them and grabbed the handbag from the victim, before getting driving away from the scene, down St Mary’s Road.
Surrey Police, investigating the incident, said the crocodile skin shoulder bag contained a Blackberry, a digital camera and a small amount of cash. The woman was not injured during the robbery.
The robber was black, about 25 to 30, 5ft 10in, of slim build and with short, dark hair. He was wearing a dark blue T-shirt and jeans.
Detective Constable Rene Murdoch, leading the investigation, said he wanted to hear from anybody who was in the Oatlands Drive area at the time.
He said: “Fortunately the victim was not injured but she has had a number of valuable items stolen and everything possible is being done to bring the suspect to justice.”
