A taxi driver has received a 12-month conditional discharge after twice ripping off customers. Saeed Naseem, of Long Close, Bessacarr, charged fares above the level set under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.
The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of charging excess fare under the legislation following two incidents on December 20 when driving Hackney Carriage HC154. Naseem was ordered to pay £200 costs.
