Taxi Firm Bids To Open Door For Licences 4 September 2009 A private hire taxi firm has applied for two licences – despite its vehicles having one door less than they are supposed to. Licensing conditions state that private hire vehicles must have "at least four doors excluding any doors at the rear of the vehicle". But a police report on the application for licences for two Ford Transit vehicles by John Coulman found that they had only three doors – with no door at the "off side" of the cars. A report by Jim Inch, the council's director of corporate services, said: "Following successful inspections, the applications for private hire car licences for those vehicles with the requested amendment to licensing conditions were presented to the then regulatory committee and approved." Councillors will assess the application and make a decision at a meeting of the licensing sub-committee on Wednesday. Source; EdinburghNews.Scotsman.com |
