currently theres supposed to be 64 live apps in front of them plus the ipl.
shouldnt worry i think they will all be granted, they granted mine no probs,im sure they knew what would happen if they did,and im sure they planned to grant any apps as a consequence.

job done! in there eyes at least

Ali, without wishing to get back into it in the sarcasm stakes, you say there are 64 ppl applying all at once?

So that means if they are all granted that's 62 more mouths at least for you to compete with this time around, once word travels this will probably be more like 400 and you will see what I've been telling you about all along mate.

And remember, nobody will be buying what they can obtain freely this time, you've opened the door right up this time.

I'm just off the phone with the licensing section and they confirmed to me that as of this morning there were 67 applications in.

The guy reckoned that there would be a 'special meeting' of the comittee called at which the applicants would be invited to put their case for getting granted a licence, and each case would be judged on it's merits.

I'm not sure how (if?) that would work, or if there is scope for it under the terms of the act. I need to go and dust off my CGSA book

the council can do pretty much what it likes nick, when it comes to granting licences, they can grant all or derestrict if they want.
its only when they seek to deny the granting of a licence that they must justify there actions.
no justification is needed for a grant, as they are not required to restrict the amount of taxi licences under the act.

word has already travelled round doom.
and 67 have applied, factor in the ipl and you have 165,thats 10% more taxis on the road, bearing in mind nearly all these guys already drive, albeit for another owner, there would at worst be a 13%odd drop in earnings and at best nil drop as these guys would give up there current drives to drive there own.
the big loss is to the current owners who would lose there drivers income.
we have always said there would be a minimal amount of apps 200 aint that bad if you ask me, i can cope! its the guys who have over extended themselves based on an unwritten promise from the council or guys that have been shafting drivers for years with over inflated rentals and poor working conditions, and have never set foot in a taxi for years.

this is a time of liberation mr doom in the edinburgh taxi trade you should be rejoicing for youre brothers not decrying them, anyway i made my choice and the guys that have applied after me made there choice!they like me obviosly feel they would be better of with there own licence without the price tag, they needed no coertion to make that decision, it quite frankly its a no brainer to anyone with any common sense.

no sarcasm intended btw

Thanks Ali.

I'm tempted to put in an application, but I get a feeling that I've missed the boat on this one and the time to do it was a few months back.

You obviously kept your eye on the ball, not like me!

I'm sure the 30 plates will go on, I'm just not sure how they'll decide who to issue them to.

I'm not really convinced that they'll issue them to all applicants.

It is a mess for the cooncil though, but it's of their own making.

What do other councils do when they issue a limited number of plates, take applications in order of date??

None taken, but a trip to Cardiff might change your mind on things, or Mansfield for that matter.
