Police have appealed for witnesses to the attack
A 33-year-old taxi driver is in a serious condition in hospital after being been stabbed by passengers he picked up in the east end of Glasgow.
The victim collected youths, aged 16 to 17, at about 0200 BST, who asked to be taken to Cardonald.
As he drove along Queensland Drive the passengers, who were sitting in the rear of the car, stabbed him in his arm and body, before fleeing.
Police said the attack would appear to have been "completely unprovoked".
They have appealed for witnesses.
The taxi driver was taken to the Southern General Hospital, where staff described his condition as serious but stable.
The suspects were all described as wearing tracksuits. The private hire taxi involved was a silver Vauxhall Vectra.
Det Con Colin McLarnon said: "This would appear to be a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man who was out earning a living. It is unclear at this time whether the victim was robbed. He has still to be fully interviewed.
"Meanwhile, I would appeal to anyone who saw the three individuals in Queensland Drive, Glasgow, around 0220 BST, or who know their identity, to get in touch.
He added: "The taxi travelled westbound on the M8 before going through the Clyde Tunnel and then took the cut off for Cardonald. I would ask any drivers who perhaps noticed this silver coloured Vectra or the behaviour of the occupants to come forward."
