Taxi checks in Redditch ROADSIDE checks have been carried out on taxi and private hire vehicles in Redditch as part of a continuing programme to help maintain high standards of safety. Redditch Council licensing officers, West Mercia Police and vehicle examiners from the Department for Transport Vehicle and Operator Services Agency carried out the stop checks on Friday, September 11. During the operation, 65 vehicles had roadside examinations, which include checks on the vehicles, equipment and drivers. A total of 32 vehicles underwent further detailed examinations by VOSA engineers. Out of the vehicles examined, four were found to have faults and were the subject of delayed prohibition notices, which require the faults to be rectified. Councillor Juliet Brunner, the council’s portfolio holder for community safety, said: "Having observed part of the evening I am pleased to see that the ongoing safety spot checks undertaken by our officers have paid dividends with fewer defects being detected. Residents can be assured that there will be no compromise when it comes to the safety of taxi users." Susan Garratt, licensing manager, said: "The outcome of this inspection confirms the benefits of the council’s policy of introducing age restrictions and monitoring vehicle standards of the licensed fleet. It also demonstrates the need to continue proactive initiatives such as spot checks." |

I think it confirms the benefits of monitoring vehicle standards only and not of the policy of introducing age restrictions. The council are using this as justification for introducing age restrictions

No Sue your a deluded window licker. Your council annual (or bi annual) vehicle inspection reports, compared with those before the policy was brought in, will confirm any benefits, first time pass success rates etc. All you've done is stop a few vehicles, it doesnt demonstrate how well maintained your fleet is one bit.
