Thief makes his getaway in a Taxi

A BRAZEN burglar who raided a house was spotted while making his getaway – loading his haul into a taxi.

Neighbours saw the cocky thief putting a 42 inch TV into the saloon car during the break-in on Saturday night in Cross Street, Nuneaton.

While a family – including three young children – were asleep upstairs the raider looted ipods, a Nintendo Wii, X-box and dozens of DVDs including a collection of every Disney film ever made.

The break-in has left the young family terrified.

One neighbour said the family members had been attacked before while walking home, leaving one family member needing hospital treatment.

She said: “It was like they knew where everything was. They had come over the back gate They even went into one of the drawers and took a load of tobacco and I don’t know how they knew it was in there.

“They took everything valuable, and all while the children were upstairs in bed. Then the cheeky devils just put all it in a taxi.”

Police are now looking for a white male in his early 20s, with short, mousey-brown hair. He left the scene in a private hire saloon vehicle.

One relative, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s wicked what they have done. If one of those children had come down stairs in the middle of the night then God help them.

“The kids don’t want to go back there now. They’re having problems sleeping.”

A Warwickshire Police spokeswoman said: “We would appeal for any other witnesses to come forward.”

Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
