‘HEARTLESS JOBSWORTHS’ BLAMED FOR TAXIMAN’S LOSS OF LIVELIHOOD LICENSING officers were this week condemned as “heartless jobsworths” after allowing a Stratford taxi driver to go out of business because he was nine hours late with his registration documents, writes Duncan Smith. Jeremy Slater-Brown (pictured), aged 68, who has been operating in the town for over a decade, is facing an uncertain future having lost his livelihood. Stratford District Council has taken away his right to operate in the town after he was late handing his vehicle’s registration document in on Monday. His old hackney carriage licence expired nine hours earlier. He said: “I’m absolutely furious. It’s my livelihood, my life. It’s completely unnecessary from my point of view—to rob someone of their livelihood is just ridiculous. We should have a partnership with the licensing authority, but it’s not like that in Stratford.” Mr Slater-Brown had been waiting for his vehicle’s logbook to be sent from Swansea, but wild-cat postal strikes delayed its arrival. When it finally did arrive, on Saturday, the council offices were closed. |

All operators who are late with there license fee in Dundee appeal and get there license back.A few years ago a Mr black took the council to court and won(no surprise).Ever since then anyone who appeals gets there license back. |

Is this licencing department fit and proper
FFs it was not the drivers fault if the royal mail had not gone on strike he would have had it in on time, what happened to discretion
I hope he gets it back quickly |

I can't believe this will be allowed to stand. Surely someone at that council has a brain?

Why? Swansea don't normally do anything with documents unless you change the car or move house. |

I was thinking that, and the new documents require the new keeper to hold a portion of the registration document. Unless of course that was no good for the LA....which is possible, but I would suggest unlikely. CC |

I've presented a portion of a document to the council when I've changed my car, with an undertaking that I produce the full document when I receive it. I'm beginning to think that we only have one side of the story here. |
