No rise in taxi fares for Blaenau Gwent

BLAENAU Gwent councillors chose not to increase Hackney Carriage fares in the borough.

The decision was made at yesterday's meeting of the licensing committee, as the annual review of prices was considered.

Currently, a fare for one to four people between 6am and midnight is £2.60 for the first mile and 12p for each subsequent tenth of a mile.

Between midnight and 6am, the first mile costs £3.20 and 16p for each further tenth of a mile.

From 6pm on Christmas Eve until midnight on Boxing Day, the charge increases to £5.20 for the first mile and 24p for each additional tenth of a mile.

This is also the price from 6pm on New Year's Eve and throughout New Year's Day.

On other bank holidays, the price starts at £3.90 and goes up by 18p per tenth of a mile after this.

The current price scheme came into effect on October 12 2007 and in August, the council's licensing team asked all hackney carriage owners to ask for any proposed increases to fares, but received none.

As a result of this, it was decided no action will be taken on the fares.

Why ask the trade? If the trade want an increase they will ask.

Yet another prime example of council 'pointless bureaucracy'.

Good point......but look at the mileage rate......£1.20p per mile?

ffs they'd be better off doing the 40p per mile charity thing :sad:
