It appears that the self drive scum bags got a kicking at the Drive 09 chauffeurs show at the weekend , there was a VOSA delegation that held seminars trying to explain to the fuuk wits that self drive was no longer a option, The mood at the show was as happy as the Labour conference in Brighton . Even the insurance company Direct Chauffeur Line has now refused to insure the scam.

![]() I take it that you attended the seminars, or is this just your conclusion from second hand information? |

lisning while having a cup of tea to the doom & gloom after the seminar from the ones that attended was enough to be able to judge the mood and see how it went down. So I would not call that second hand but you will. |

Not all the self hire brigade share your view. Some were quite happy that it is still legal but only if done absolutly to the letter which is how it should be. Anyone trying to shortcut the system deserves to get their comuppence (or however it is spelt). |

It's not nor never will be legal. It's a scam, and the fact that one insurance company has dumped the scam is a very good step forward. Anyone who uses any scam to avoid being licensed is a scumbag, and the sooner they die the better. |

Quote: Neil Barlow told thechauffeur.com; “These regulations have always been there – many operators have simply chosen to ignore them. The legislation has not been changed from 1st October, it is just that we now have the power to impound a vehicle if the operator chooses to ignore the rules.”
Just about sums things up.

Quote: Operator Danny Matthews who is heading-up today’s protest in London told thechauffeur.com; “We have paid our import duty, VAT, income tax and duty on these vehicles, and now the government is demanding we spend another £18,000 on a COIF conversion straight away – or risk our vehicles being impounded.”
what a load of cobblers...a COIF is just a certificate of Initial Fitness...a Fire Extinguisher and a first aid kit and a full set of seatbelts (which they should have anyway) and then a COIF test would get them a COIF.. As for tachos......not needed unless you do a Scheduled run of more than 50Km on a registered route. but yes..a speed limiter as its under Minibus ops Licence, and then a PSV licence for the driver and then 36 hours of CPC training over 3 years for that driver.. where they get £18,000 from I dont know!! |
