Liverpool Calderstone Park Rape Victim’s Daughter Gives Evidence

Sep 30 2009

The daughter of a woman raped in a Liverpool park has described seeing a “dodgy” man with his trousers down minutes before the attack.

The 58-year-old victim was taking her dog on an early-morning walk in Calderstones Park when she was attacked.

Her daughter yesterday told Liverpool crown court she had noticed a “scruffy” man entering the park with his trousers down.

She told jurors the same man jumped over a wall with his trousers still lowered minutes before her distraught mother emerged after the sexual assault.

The woman, who had chosen to stay in the car while her mother walked their dog, said she noticed a blue Hackney carriage taxi pull up at about 8.30am on April 11 and a man get out.

In a statement to police, she said: “I thought he looked scruffy and a bit dodgy so I locked the car doors.”

Speaking in a quiet voice, the woman told how his appearance made her feel “scared”.

She said his trousers were undone and down by his thighs and she assumed he must need to relieve himself.

She said she watched as he entered the park, but minutes later heard her dog barking.

The witness said: “A split second later, the same man I saw go into the park I saw jump over the wall. His pants were down by his thighs again, half his hair was out of his ponytail and some was across his face.”

She added: “He looked quite scared and nervous.”

A couple of minutes later, the woman’s mother emerged from the park.

She said: “She had a cut under her eye which was bleeding, a lump on her head which was starting to go into a bruise and was crying.”

Two days later, the woman picked taxi driver Stephen Ord, 37, at a police identity parade as the man she saw.

Ord, of Acuba Road, Wavertree, denies rape and further charges from March 30 of assault by beating and committing that offence with intent to commit a sexual offence.

In the other charge, it is alleged he attacked a 77-year-old woman as she walked to a coffee morning through an alleyway by Northway Park.

Jurors have already heard analysis of Ord’s computer revealed he downloaded 12 films of “forced, simulated sexual activity” and visited rape websites.
