Taxi touting trouble By Ushma Mistry RESIDENTS are calling for action against mini-cab firms touting for business at the entrance to a housing estate. For the past year up to six mini-cabs are continuously parking at the entrance to the Racecourse Estate, Petts Hill, while they wait to pick up passengers, forcing residents to walk round them to get in and out their estate, it is claimed. Linda Koupparis, member of the Danemead Grove & Petts Hill Residents Association, has complained several times at the Northolt Area Committee meetings as well as to the police and Transport for London (TfL) but so far nothing has been done. She told the Times: "The area is being used as an unofficial taxi rank. This usually starts from 2.30pm every day. They use it as a place to have their sandwiches, to sleep in the cars and pick up passengers. "We even suggested that bollards are put there but so far nothing has been done. It's the access to the Racecourse Estate which hundreds of people use." The issue was raised at the last Northolt Area Committee meeting on November 17 but residents are yet to hear from Ealing Council. Ward Cllr Glenn Murphy, is well aware of the problem and agrees with the residents' concerns. He said: "Where the taxis park is out of order. Ealing Council has been asked to look at it but they have not taken any action." The problem has been ongoing for the past two years but Ealing Council says it is powerless to move them on. A council spokesman said: "We are currently looking at a plan to pedestrianise the Petts Hill and Dabbs Hill entrance area, which will help deter cars from parking there. "If we decide to progress with this the work could be included as part of the Petts Hill bridge scheme." 11:02am today aww and PH licensing was gonna cure this regards Captain cab |
