Tottenham Teenager Jailed For Role In Cabbie Stick-up Friday 2nd October 2009 An 18-year-old man from Tottenham has been sentenced for 30 months for his role in a violent robbery against a cab driver. Student Tarik Pereira, of Church Road, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court, in Lordship Lane, on Friday September 25 after admitting his involvement. The court heard that on May 23, 2009, in Church Road, a 30-year-old cab driver had a knife pressed against his throat by a group of four men he had believed were customers. The robbers then delivered a serious blow to the cabbie's head with a heavy object before robbing him of his wallet, satellite navigation system, mobile phones and jewellery. Pereira's fingerprints were found on an item inside the victim's glove box and he was arrested on June 12 and charged later that day. Detective Constable Tina Young, of The Robbery Squad in Haringey said: "This incident appears to have been a premeditated robbery and resulted in the victim being restrained at knifepoint and sustaining head injuries. "This sentence shows that robberies like this will not be tolerated and that we will pursue, arrest and bring those responsible before the courts." Source; HaringeyIndependent.co.uk |
