Middlesbrough man saved from jail by sick mum

A TAXI controller’s sick mother helped save him from prison after he bottled a woman in a nightspot.

Shaban Khan denied attacking Jane Teasdale in Stockton’s Zanzibar club but was convicted of actual bodily harm assault by a jury last month.

The two had “exchanged words” in the club before the assault in the early hours of December 27 last year.

This followed a long-running feud between her ex-partner “Docco” and Khan, Teesside Crown Court heard..

“According to her evidence, as she was leaving the club she heard a threat directed towards her ex-partner,” said prosecutor Patricia Mancina.

Ms Teasdale said she turned to see Khan, she made a “disparaging remark” to him, and he hit her in the face with a bottle which did not break.

She had facial swelling and cuts inside her mouth, but did not require medical treatment, the court was told.

When arrested, Khan, 36, claimed Ms Teasdale had been racially abusive to him and threw a glass or bottle at him.

Adrian Dent, defending, said Khan, of Borough Road, Middlesbrough, was usually well regarded but had “weak anger management skills”.

He said he apologised for a “wholly regrettable” incident.

Khan had lived with his mum who had diabetes and severe kidney problems and needed dialysis three times a week, and he would take his mother to hospital, said Mr Dent.

In 2004 Khan was given community punishment for causing grievous bodily harm with intent in a fight where a man suffered a ruptured spleen.

Khan said he went “over the top” after confronting someone who tried to hit him with a hammer. He had other convictions for breaching orders and driving while disqualified.

Judge Peter Bowers told Khan: “You couldn’t complain if I sent you down for 12 months now. It seems to me that you’ve got a job, you’ve got a mother who you need to look after and I can probably avoid the public expense of keeping you in prison.”

He passed a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months with supervision, 120 hours’ unpaid work and an anger management programme, and ordered him to pay £300 compensation to Ms Teasdale and £250 costs

Justice again, he walks to bottle someone else another day.

There was something on the tv earlier about an uninsured, unlicensed no MOT, canabis smoking driver (not a cabby) who rammed a guy off his bike and fled the scene leaving the guy a quadrapedic, his punishment? 6 mths ban, 6 mths suspended sentence, if that ain't the mother of all [edited by admin] takes I dunno what is.

Ahh you should know by now Nigel that all the Koran rules are open to interpretation as and when they suit the user to abide by them, the annoying thing for me with it is why don't they stand together and say they want to drink and do things the Koran says not to, after all this is the UK and a lot of them are born here, so why shouldn't they be free to choose how they want to live away from the all knowing watching eye of yet another brainwashing ancient business cash generating faith, all these religions are police, if only ppl could see through it all.

I don't think it matters what they do so long as they pray for forgiveness they are bound to receive it from their all forgiving god the same as all religions have . There would be no point in having a god that wasn't all forgiving cos then if a member of the faith did something wrong that wasn't going to be forgiven there would be no chance of bringing them back into the fold, thus loosing any control that maybe obtained by them being so
