300 Cabbies Get NVQ In Driving
08 October 2009 Hundreds of Calderdale cabbies have taken part in a drive to improve passenger safety. More than 300 Hackney carriage and private hire drivers have successfully completed a new NVQ qualification in road passenger vehicle driving. They were presented with their certificates by Arshad Mahmood, Mayor of Calderdale, in a ceremony at Halifax Town Hall. Drivers were assessed for up to eight weeks on route planning, road safety, customer care and disability awareness. David Kirton (Con, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe), portfolio holder for corporate services, said: "Taxi and private hire drivers play a hugely important role in Calderdale, both socially and economically." After this story I'll have to do my NVQ, just so I can go to a ceremony!!!
Ms Toots, do you do ceremonies for those candidates that pass with your able tuition? Does that sound right or not? |

That means some mush has made close to a quarter of a million putting those lads through.

The fees vary from basic NVQ @ £1,200 to the higher level NVQ @ £1,800 per candidate so I suspect Sussex is closer to the mark

Does that sound right or not? I'm sure a ceremony of sorts could be arranged for you if you insist and I wouldn't use the word tuition

I personally am not particularly bothered whether there is funding available or not. What you should be concerned with is whether LA's will still consider it necessary for drivers to have training even if there is no funding available cos that is when the real money will be made
Has it not ocurred to anybody that although the funding may go the desire by the LA to have drivers trained may well still be there and a backward step to no training would see them embarrassed having pushed for it for several years now. How can they say how wonderful they think it is one minute and then say it isn't after the funding has gone
Anyway I'm sure it'll sort itself out in the wash as they say and before I finish I'd like to hi to lawman it's so rare for you to comment on here, is the golf course shut

No, he didn't. Licencing did. He probably got an e-mail the day before asking if it was OK to use that quote. As for the NVQ, what a laugh. A nationally accredited scheme for driving people around. Talk about pointless job creation. |
