TWO Stockton men who tormented and assaulted a taxi driver before making off with his takings have been jailed.
Andrew Jones and Scott Revell took exception when cabbie Trevor Chambers said he was not insured to take five people in his car.
Revell, 21, verbally abused the driver, took his car keys and threw them into bushes.
Jones, 22, punched the cabbie in the face, cutting his nose, then stole his £85 takings in the early hours of July 5.
Jones of Norton Road, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and theft.
Revell, of Drake Road, admitted handling stolen goods - sharing out the pinched takings - and breaching an anti-social behaviour order two days before it expired.
The incident came just four months after Jones was given a community order for assault. It was also weeks after Revell took a Jeep Cherokee outside a house and crashed it into a Citroen Xsara, writing off the other £6,000 vehicle on May 25.
Revell admitted aggravated vehicle taking and driving while disqualified.
Robin Denny, defending Jones, said he had never been inside, was “utterly ashamed” and remorseful and had directly apologised to the driver.
Peter Makepeace, for Revell, said he took “far too much alcohol and other substances” that night, but was a “completely different person” in custody.
Recorder Keith Miller said: “Taxi drivers are entitled to the protection of the court.”
He jailed Jones for a year and Revell, who had a worse criminal record, for 15 months. Revell was banned from driving for two years.
