A RESTAURANT which has brought a taste of Asia to the North East has now added one of the continent’s most distinctive vehicles.
Mark Lagun, who owns the Barn Asia restaurant in Newcastle travelled to Thailand to buy a Tuk Tuk – a three-wheeled vehicle that packs the streets of many cities in south-east Asia, where they are used as taxis.
Mr Lagun plans to use the Tuk Tuk to ferry people to the restaurant and is also looking at plans to use it for deliveries in the city centre.
He said: “I wanted to have one from the outset but we could only do so much.
“We want to use it to get local people to the restaurant. If people are getting married at the Civic Centre, we could pick them up and bring them here to have a reception.
“We often hold wedding receptions at the restaurant and I’m not sure many people know about that.”
The petrol-powered Tuk Tuk can travel at 50mph.
After taking three months to get it to the North East, Mr Lagun then had to install seatbelts and other measures to make it safe for the British roads.
