'Taxi driver broke my leg' Friday 30th October 2009 Police are searching for a taxi driver accused of attacking a 17-year-old Cwmbran boy, leaving him lying in the road for 20 minutes with a broken leg following a dispute over the fare. Michael Board, of Stonebridge Park, had been out with a friend on September 12 when he flagged down a taxi outside Grubs Up in Skinner Street between 3.30am and 4am the following morning. After dropping off Michael’s friend James Clouth in Coed Eva, the taxi driver carried on to drop Michael off. Michael’s mother Rosanna said he tried to direct the taxi driver to his home, but his directions were not being followed, leading to the car stopping at Rose Gardens off North Road. She said that because of the long route the taxi driver took, the fare had gone well above the £15 Michael saved and in what she described as “a moment of madness”, he panicked and tried to flee. This led to the taxi driver allegedly driving backwards and forwards to scare Michael before driving straight at him when he tried to cross the road. At the time of the incident, Mrs Board said the driver got out and carried on kicking at Michael’s leg, demanding his money. After Michael gave the taxi driver what money he had left, the driver drove off, leaving Michael to call for his own ambulance. He was taken to the Royal Gwent where doctors operated on his leg. One of the bones in his leg was broken in three places and the other bone was broken in two places. This left him with a rod and three screws going through his leg from just below the knee to his ankle. Michael described the driver as Asian, in his 40s and wearing glasses. Anyone with any information should contact Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Source; freepressseries.co.uk |

I take it he didn't leave the £15 behind before he did the runner?
