It was in an interview with the new woman chairperson, who is taking over until they put the line up to tender again in a few years time on sky news at about 2.45 this afternoon

I though Network Rail owned the land and the stations?

Surely they maintain control whilst a new franchise is being tendered out to prospective Train Operating Companies?

It has just been announced by the new rail chair person that from midnight tonight permits for picking up at any east coast line station will no longer be required, this is to ease the burden on rail passengers and to help them get to there onward destination more quickly

The operation of the stations goes with the franchise the land etc is owned by network rail so any fees/permits parking charges etc are revenue for the station operator which is now the new public owned company

One english pound says that Skippy 41 has got it around his neck as usual.

Jimbo is only jealous, he still has to PAY if he wants to work the station, as his line is not back in public ownership

Great so now it will be nearly impossible to get near Peterborough station to drop off and pick up because every hackney in peterborough will be blocking up the access roads instead of the 50 to 60 normally queueing and what about those who already have permits which cost them a tidy sum I can see a massive legal battle looming once she's got the trains running again the punctuality figures will have taken a big dent today !

Network rail only own certain stations.......Newcastle is one I think York is another (on the East Coast mainline anyway). CC

Should save the lad 1000s in Newcastle and York, but I bet for every block jumping for joy there is one crying about losing his exclusivity.

I am jealous that Skippy 41 has driven the all electric Metrocab, and I have not. I am jealous because Skippy was able to join the army at 12 months old, and i had to wait until I was sixteen years old before I could join the navy. And I am green with envy that skippy heard the same interview on the radio yesterday, and I heard no mention of taxi access to stations, whereas he did. Strange days indeed.
