Please find below an email from our Bracknell Rep regarding a case held recently where the GMB supported one of its members by appealing to the magistrates court against the decision of Bracknell Council to not license his Skoda Ocatavia as it was over 8 years of age and was not in the councils opinion exemplary.

We are all delighted with Kevin Offield's victory at Maidenhead magistrates court yesterday. Although I had to leave before the verdict came in I was over the moon with the verdict when I heard. The victory as big and important as is it was to Kevin it was just as important to all our members along wth our obtaining relimiting of our Hackney Carriage plates a month ago.
Both these acheivement have come with our newly formed taxi forum a year and half ago and our members joining the GMB. I think this latest victory can only make Bracknell Forest Council realise that mutual negotiation is the best policy.
Because I have no way of contacting Mr.Ellis and Mr Boulton can pass on my heartfelt thanks and that of Kevin,my members and the GMB.

Good.....perhaps you'll now stop the f*ckwit who runs the trafford GMB branch to stop pushing for calendar control meters on the basis of zero complaints from customers over the past 12 months.

Hello Captain,

Your posts do sometimes make me laugh :wink: I would persume that my brother has the support of his membership and he is following their wishes. I do not know the case history, whats it all about?

I'll get back to you on that skippy and why your wrong for so many different reasons.

I think your brother has the support of his branch with about 2 brothers. :wink:

There's apparently a lot of cabs from different areas go into trafford and get business when Man Utd play at home, most fares go back to Manchester.....I'd say that is an enforcement problem.

That aside, Manchester is in another area, so the GMB basically want traffords cabs on calendar control to solve a problem that the meter cannot fix anyway.

You want all cabs to have calendar control even though you discount all fares by 25% after a certain time.

Well thanks Captain for explaining that :shock: Are you saying that the problem is one of enforcement and this guy is trying to solve it with calender controlled meters due to pricing :oops:

It appears to be the case, I think the report is on the website.

I also think having zero complaints isnt a very good ground for saying something is needed.

Maybe next time the council will think twice before trying to enforce a stupid bloody rule.

Surely this is a massive boost in relation to the objection by the trade to enforced council age limits.These magistrate should be congratulated for this common sense approach. I understand that the vehicle a skoda was in very good condition and had passed all testing criteria with flying colours. This has been the subject of much discussion over the years ,and whilst the trade wants to rid itself of SHEDS, as so called rust buckets are still able to ply for hire,we should consider the facts surrounding this case.

1. The vehicle had been maintained to the highest level.

2. The vehicle had passed all the council testing requirements

3. The vehicle body,and interior were maintained and kept in good order.

Now given the above facts / WHY SHOULD THIS VERY CONCIENTIOUS owner driver be forced to purchase another vehicle,indeed this was the view expressed from the bench.

I fail to see why the detractors have raised the question of calender meters......This is yet another victory gained by the GMBpdb Southern Region on behalf of a member and should be celebrated as such.

Dont call me a detractor. I did pass on my congratulations, but pointed out for every victory there is some f*ckwit with his own agenda.

Incidentally, one of the reasons I am not jumping up and down regarding this 'success' is perhaps the fact I'm not too impressed given current economic circumstances brought about by a government your mob prop up with funds. :lol:

I could say 10p per day and that would trump you. :wink:

The reason I'm not impressed is because there's a stated court case out there regarding age limits fettering a councils discretion, therefore there is no such thing as an age limit, in theory, provided the cab is maintained to a high standard.

Indeed, I could mention a few NTA successes in recent weeks, but I dont do such things, as I dont think that's my job.

As Sussex commented recently about a place where I know Mick Hildreth had done an awful lot of work, he didn't get any credit at all, which is highly unfair on the person doing the work, but perhaps also quite modest.
