Sir,

You featured an article in July over myself protesting over Private Hire to have equal rights as Black Cabs to be able to use Bus Lanes to drop Disabled/Elderly customers off.

On Wednesday the 2nd of December 200-300 Private Hire drivers will be starting a convoy to Manchester Town Hall from Manchester City Football Club at 12.00 noon - again we will be protesting to allow Private Hire to use Bus Lanes for our customers and also to stop the increasing verbal attacks drivers now receive from customers when drivers are sat in traffic clocking up fares when they see empty Black Cabs flying down Bus Lanes.

Private Hire play an important role in today's integrated Transport Strategy we are the only public sector service working 24 hrs a day often carrying drunk abusive aggressive people during unsociable hours and we want equal rights as Black Cabs.

55 councils allow Private Hire to use Bus Lanes but Manchester does not, this discrimination against our customers and the breaking of competition Laws for our trade needs to stop.

Regards

Not until you have a top sign that says taxi, and you learn how to take the shortest rout and stop all the illegal pick ups

Could be the traffic enforcement could be in for a nice Christmas bonus what is the fine £60 per illegal PH
BTW if you all had lobyed the council last week you could have all had hack licences but it looks like you missed the boat
Have a nice day

Maybe the lads from Manchester should join up with the lads from London and contest this under EU laws.

IF one business is getting preferable treatment over another, then surely the Treaty of Rome is being breached.

I think you will find that it was Marie Antoinette who was reported to have used this phrase when the peasants were revolting because they had no bread.

This is the same guy that claimed a PH rank outside of a Nightclub was legal because the customers were touted by staff first.

Good starting point for the campaign. :D

It was interesting reading some of the comments - for the record i have never had any involvement in any legal or illegal ranks at nightclubs.

As regards to PUing drivers - shame on them PHV's i hope they do get caught and their badges taken from them. Ripping customers off and leaving their regular customers waiting from the area they work whilst they PU in Manchester is unacceptable.

Whilst waiting for my wife who works in Manchester i see normal cars without any plates on them pick up very drunk women up who just jump in any car - its these people who assault and rape women. Whilst PHV's out number Hackney 4 - 1 in Manchester, on these averages there will always be an element of bad apples in so many numbers of PHV's.

Out of area drivers come to late night Manchester charging what they want and do what they want as no one from the licensing dept challenges them.

Few months ago i and many PHV's drove and supported the Black Cab demo in Salford regarding de regulation, and should Hackney ever need our support in the future we would of course be there to support our fellow workers.

There is many representatives of Hackney and Private Hire with difference of oppinions maybe one day the great minds of those trades will come to the table for the good of the trade and of course not forgetting the most important topic THE CUSTOMER

The customer! this is why we are trying to get the council to allow us to use Bus Lanes - we do not benefit from using them but the customer does, less waiting time, shorter journey time = arriving on time for hospital, doctors, dentist, optician appointments not forgetting the Disabled/Elderly some of whom can not even walk 5 yards.

Thankyou for reading our points i would like to take this oppurtunity to wish you and all your families a verry merry xmas and new year.

Best Regards
derek
