A mini cab driver has been charged with manslaughter after a pedestrian was knocked over by a car in the West End of London.

Imran Raja, 37, was charged following an accident in Old Burlington Street, Mayfair, at 1942 GMT on Saturday.

Apparently mini cab driver Raja, hit the man and tried to drive off but was stopped by his passenger who called the emergency services. The victim, who is about 50 years old, has not yet been formally identified by police.

Mr Raja, who is being held in custody, is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Police were alerted by the ambulance service to the incident, involving a black Ford Galaxy, at the junction of Old Burlington Street and Clifford Street. The man was taken to University College Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Anyone who can help the police with their inquiries should contact the incident room, on 020 8358 0300.

Yep.

We want parity with real Taxis

Saying that, they've certainly got the right calibre of people leading this unheard of fight.

Don’t they? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another sad accident turned into a battle of wills between the taxis and the ph. Pots, kettles and glass houses springs to mind. Nobody is perfect not even the London cabby.

It's about time they did something about the standards or rather the lack of them for their PH fleets in London

My money is on the driver being unlicensed, and unfortunately for both of them the victim probably did the old......I'm walking here thing.

You just wouldn't leave someone if you had nothing to hide, the fact he had a punter in as well should've given him the chance to prove himself innocent in the accident, I guess we're all different at the end of the day.

It was an Addison Lee vehicle, so it was licensed.

I certainly hope it was. :?

Toot's, it's nothing to do with battles of will, the London Minicab folks seem to think they are on par with the London Taxi trade as we both come under TFL. That's where the similarities end. They think this qualifies them as Taxi Drivers in London. It doesn't.

This story (lifted from the BBC) and dozens more go a long way to show they are not, and therefore should not be afforded any more concessions until they improve their act.

The London Taxi trade is far from perfect, current company excepted, but when you see stories like this concerning us, that will be the day I leave the Taxi trade for good.

But putting it simply, you don't.

We're generaly in it for a lifetime, the opposition do it until something better comes along / the recession gets better / they pass the Knowledge / the get deported.

I didn't mean the car bud, it will probably come out that he's the cousin or brother of the guy who rents the car.

Could be.

I'll give John Griffen his dues though, he's strict, very strict and unlike some operators out there in London, he comes down like a ton of bricks if drivers are found to have been touting / arranging private work away from the company.

Problem is you can't watch the car all day, and with todays tech, i.e data boxes some drivers never ever enter the company premises or meet the owner of the firm, it happens here as well, my mate got hit by another driver the other week, the driver wouldn't get out of the car to appologise, I won't say which denomination cos it'll only make me look like I'm picking on them.

Another ill informed comment. [-(

I suspect your next comments will be the job was touted off a taxi rank, and he raped a few women just before the accident.

Don't a whole load of threads here NOT written by me say that anyway Mr Perfect?

And if you're gonna say it back it up, can we I have it on record that no cab is ever driven by an unlicensed driver, and the majority of those that are are never Asian?

Answer me this.....if you have nothing to hide why would you drive off and leave someone in the road dying, I know I'm a dinosaur in this kick everyone world today, but I simply wouldn't unless I was desperate not to get caught at something, you aren't the leading authority on taxi driving or life for that matter, sitting up high on a website that attract maybe 50 users at best doesn't qualify as god like, try being invited to help out on a major hardware manufacturers support site, that's not a post count rating either, I got invited because I knew things that are useful to others to troubleshoot problems, and get this smart guy, soon I'll be beta testing products for them before they hit the market, so cut it out with your put downs VILLAGE.

I would never drive off, but that doesn't allow me to say the reason this mush did was because a member of his family was driving the car.

The reason he could have driven away was he panicked (wrongly) and/or made a futile attempt to escape justice. Did the Deputy Labour Leader drive away after hitting that car the other day do so because folks might have thought it was her sister driving?

As for the rest of your comments, grow up.

What with a punter onboard, even more reason to stop because you know there's a witness.

I dunno what it's like your way, but here they're like a f***ing plague, the strokes they pull, the overcharging, not knowing where to go and even in one case can't speak English?????? who gave him a badge I wonder????? and away from the drivers side of things all they think of is money and to take advantage, even tonight I had one get in to go 0.4 of a mile cos it was raining, the fare went £3.20 and it tries to give me £3.00, so once I'd extracted the rest by way of the 50p he had on him his hand instantly came out to get the change before I'd even pulled my bag out, I gave him....it's ok for you to see me off for 20p but now I have your 30p your sweating over it, and the amount of them like that I've met and had to drive around over nearly a quarter of a century gives you an insight to what they are really like, hit the memory bank now, used to do a deal for curry shop staff 20 yrs ago, anywhere in the town for £1 on the understanding they rang us at night for the customers, all of a sudden there were 20000 chefs in town all working for 5 curry houses, one day I get sent to pick some up, I get there and there is 9 adults and 15 kids on the pavement all trying to get into a Cavalier, I explained they needed more cars, which meant more money so they just told me to forget it, no call out of nothing, just a waste of my time and fuel, so you'll have to accept my conclusion is based on many years of knowing how they think and work, I still think I'm on the mustard with it, and even if I ain't I don't care, cos he drove off, which makes him something I don't want to share air with, until you have lots of real experience with them it's easy to think ppl pick on them, but the truth is some are top notch and a lot are just liberty takers.
