Plea over threat of more taxi strikes source: http://www.shropshirestar.com/2009/12/2 ... i-strikes/ A council chief who oversaw a major review of taxi services three years ago in Telford today urged private hire drivers in the town who are demanding another to withdraw a threat of strike action. Councillor Kuldip Sahota also called on Telford & Wrekin Council bosses to “calm down” in their dealings with the drivers. Private hire drivers, who caused chaos when they staged a strike in Telford last Saturday night, have vowed to walk out again if they get public backing for an independent review of services. The Telford Private Hire Drivers Association has said it wants to know whether revellers support them before deciding whether to carry on with more strikes. Councillor Sahota said: “I urge the drivers not to let the public down in this festive season when they need your services most. “I also ask the council to calm down a little. The attitude of ’so be it’ is not conducive here.” |

To me that's the question you ask when you want to find a reason not to strike. Maybe they should build on the words of the councillor and have a long chat with him first, cos to me it's seems the LOs are running the show, and no f***er has voted them in.

Taxis call off New Year strike threat Private hire drivers in Telford today called off their planned New Year’s Eve strike, but have warned that further action cannot be ruled out. Mohammed Zaman, chairman of the Telford Private Hire Drivers Association, said there could be more strikes in January as the dispute between drivers and Telford & Wrekin Council continues. The dispute centres on claims by the drivers that they are being unfairly punished by the council’s licensing department for minor indiscretions. |

I suppose it depends on what you call a minor indiscretion

To be honest I would be more surprised if there wasn't a degree of coercion.
