| Post subject: | Dundee taxi driver attacked |
A Dundee taxi driver was taken to Ninewells Hospital in the early hours of this morning after he was attacked near the city centre The 33-year-old suffered a head injury in the incident, which occurred in Marine Parade at City Quay around 5am. It is understood the driver, who works for Tele Taxis, had driven two men to the area in his silver Peugeot shortly before the incident occurred. Passers-by alerted the emergency services and the driver was taken to Ninewells by ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be serious. A 35-year-old man was later arrested and inquiries are ongoing. Officers were carrying out door-to-door inquiries at residential properties and CCTV footage was being reviewed. Doug Inglis, director of Tele Taxis, said, “We’re really shocked. Our drivers are always wary, but it’s horrible when this happens.” Tayside Police are urging anyone who may have information regarding the incident to call 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer. — Six Dundee taxis were fitted with CCTV cameras towards the end of last year as part of a pilot scheme aimed at cutting crime. The initiative was funded jointly by taxi firms and Dundee City Council’s anti-social behaviour fund. Figures released by Dundee Taxi Association suggest this has helped significantly reduce the number of assaults against taxi drivers. http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/outpu ... 622t0.shtm |

It's not for me to plug the GMB CCTV rental package, but is it worth the association looking at it?

CCTV is still not widely accepted up here, some drivers just don't want it maybe after this attack attitudes might change.Cygnus and DIS have come up with a good package i think it is a down payment of 80 pounds and 15 pounds a month. |

This isn't an either/or subject. Any CCTV will be better than no CCTV. However the Taxi Centre's CCTV is just a little box with limited storage. But better than nothing. |
